Report of Club Activity- June 2023-24
Handicraft Club
“Creativity is a process, and the best creativity is the result of enjoying the process.”
Keeping the above quote in mind, 18 students of Handicraft Club participated in the first club activity of the academic year 2023-24. The activity was conducted on Saturday, 24 th June. The venue decided for the activity was the Art Room in the senior block of school.
The first activity chosen for this year was Mud and Mirror Art inspired by Lippan Art, a traditional mural craft of Kutch, Gujarat. Lippan or mud-washing using materials locally available in the region like a mixture of clay and camel dung keeps the interiors of the houses
cool. Mirrors in this art form produce an astonishing, glittering effect, where a simple lamp can light up a very large space. The main objective behind choosing this activity was to make our students familiar with this beautiful traditional artform of Gujrat.
The students of the Handicraft club gathered in the Art room at 7:50 am. Post attendance, the students were explained about the Mud and Mirror work and the instructions for making the same were given. Students shared where and what kind of mud and mirror work they have
seen. The motifs and designs used in Mud and Mirror work are simple and inspired by everyday life. Students were also encouraged to make their own designs using air dry clay, glue, mirrors, and paints.
Students went for short break at 9:30 am. Post-break, the students continued the activity. They were excited to see their work turning into a beautiful, glittering piece of art and were engrossed to give an artistic end to their work.
They learnt to work with focus and patience while making the intricate designs with the clay. It was a joyful experience for the teachers to see their students coming up with innovative ideas. All the students thoroughly enjoyed this activity and worked with great enthusiasm.
Overall, it was a great learning experience for students as well as for teachers.
