Report of the Reel Creators Club
Session Title: ‘Understanding Cinema and its Subtleties’

The initial session of the Reel Creators club, titled ‘Understanding Cinema and its Subtleties,’ took place in collaboration with Seam Edu, Animation College, Pune. The club invited resource persons from this institute to share their insights on the topic. The primary objective of this session was to familiarize the club members with the intricacies of filmmaking, particularly focusing on the aspects of editing.
The session featured two segments, each conducted by different resource persons. Dr. Soumik Pal led the first segment, delving into the significance of filmmaking and its historical context. Dr. Pal facilitated an interactive environment, making complex concepts like indexical films and evoking emotions accessible through lucid explanations. The discussion surrounding the topic of ‘Imagination’ proved to be particularly intriguing.
The second segment was led by Akshay Gatade, an experienced film editor, who emphasized the importance and process of editing. Mr. Gatade encouraged active participation and interaction from the club members. To conclude the session, a French film with no dialogues or moving pictures was screened, followed by a stimulating discussion. The club members posed thought-provoking questions, which were answered by the resource persons.
Overall, the session was thoroughly enjoyed by the club members, and their engagement was evident. Considering the success of this session, it is anticipated that a series of subsequent sessions on the same theme would prove to be highly enriching for the club members.

Alpana Saxena: The guest speakers from Seamedu gave an excellent explanation of each aspect of Film Making. Right from Idea Creation, Imagination, and Editing to how it evolved over the years. Students really enjoyed the session as speakers made the terminologies related to filmmaking very simple for them to understand. We teachers also learned a lot from the session. Overall, it was a very good learning experience for all the students & Teachers.
Bharati Kudchadker: The first session proved to be an eye-opener as the guest speakers explained the basics of filmmaking in simple terms using thought-provoking questions and apt examples.
