India is a nation celebrated for its rich tapestry of landscapes, diverse populace, multifaceted
cultures, and a plethora of language. Despite the widespread use of English thought out the country,
each town and region proudly maintain its own its own distinct language or dialect. Among these
diverse linguistic variations, Hindi stands out as the most widely spoken language in India. As per a
2019 report from All India Radio, there were approximately 615 million Hindi speakers in India,
making it a unifying force within the nation. On a global scale, Hindi ranks as the second most
spoken language in the world, trailing only behind English and Mandarin (the Chinese language)
Hindi embodies the essence of love, dedication, struggle and culture in our nation. India is home to a
multitude of languages, with the constitution recognising 22 of them as scheduled languages. On
September 14, 1949, the Indian government officially designed Hindi, written in the Devanagari
script, as the country’s official language.
The faculty and students of Vikhe Patil, Memorial School in Pune came together to celebrate
Hindi Divas on September 14 th , in recognition of Hindi as the National Language. The festivities
commenced with a beautiful prayer, followed by a thought for the day and fascinating facts, all
presented in Hindi.
Subsequently, students from grades I, IV, and V enacted a poem performance that was truly
delightful and mesmerizing. A Nukkad Natak, cantered around raising awareness about the
significance of the Hindi language, followed, urging everyone to take pride in our National
Language. This performance was unique, as it captivated the audience with its humour, songs,
dialogues, slogans, and agile movements.
The Nukkad Natak was followed by students from grades IV and V, who enchanted the audience
with their rendition of the song “Hindi Hai Hum”. Thus, the celebration concluded on a positive
and uplifting note.
On behalf of the Hindi department, I wish to convey our heartfelt gratitude to Principal Ms. Mrinalini
for her unwavering support and encouragement. Without her, today’s program would not have been
possible. We also extend our thanks to the vice principal and all section coordinators for their
consistent support. Last butt certainly not least. I extend a heartfelt thank you to all the teachers in
our Hindi department for their exceptional teamwork.
