DRAMATIC DREAMERS CLUB

REPORT OF THE SECOND CLUB ACTIVITY

The second Dramatic Dreamers Club activity was conducted on 22nd June 2024 in the Bio Lab. Renowned theatre personality Mr. Shrikant Prabhakar was the resource person invited to conduct the special session on Physical Theatre. Continuing where the first session
ended, the students were this time around exposed to the various elements of Physical Theatre. It is a form of Post-Modern Theatre which involves interpretation rather than narration.

Without any verbal cues, all the five senses must be utilized to present the act before the audience.
The session began with a warmup activity where students had to walk, run, jump and move around the room. The students were then asked to imagine that they were an inanimate object present in the school campus and present a mime highlighting the key features of
that object.

The students were given fifteen minutes to think and plan for their performance. They came up with interesting ideas such as a clock, bird, compass, worm, ball, light switch, light bulb, pencil and so on.

After the short break, students were placed in four groups and given half an hour to brainstorm and plan their nonverbal performances. There had to be numerous inanimate objects and one student could act as a human being, but without any dialogues.
Filled with excitement, the students discussed various possibilities and then showcased their ideas
impeccably and with great flair. The major takeaway of the students was the process that goes into Physical Theatre. They
must Experience, Do and then finally Enact.

At the end, Mr. Prabhakar mentioned that an actor or performer is the origin of all expression, as the performer is on stage and not the writer or director. They must give their 100 percent to engage the audience. He advised the students to be like a
peacock who performs his dance so gracefully without realizing that he is attracting attention from an admiring audience. Hence, they must be free from inhibitions and not care about the judgement or criticism of others.
The session concluded with the vote of thanks and the sharing of their experiences by the students. They thanked Mr. Prabhakar and requested him to conduct more sessions with.
