TINY TASTEMAKERS

Description of the Event

The workshop began with a brief introduction to the dishes by the instructor. The ingredients were provided to the students, and a live
demonstration was given on how to prepare Dadpe Pohe and Khajur Barfi. The students actively participated, following the step-by-step
instructions. They chopped, mixed and assembled the ingredients with enthusiasm.

Dadpe Pohe, a traditional Maharashtrian dish, was prepared using poha (flattened rice), grated coconut, finely chopped onions, ripe tomatoes and coriander leaves. The simplicity and fresh flavours of the dish were highlighted during the demo. Additionally, the Dadpe Pohe was given a heavenly tempering of groundnuts, green chillies and curry leaves, which enhanced its flavour and aroma.

Khajur Barfi, a sweet treat made from dates and nuts, involved blending dates into a paste and mixing it with jiggery, crushed nuts and desiccated coconut. The students were particularly excited about moulding the mixture into barfi shapes and decorating them with slivers of almonds.

Key Highlights

One of the highlights was the creative presentation of Khajur Barfi by the students. They experimented with different shapes and garnishes,
showcasing their artistic skills. Another memorable moment was the spontaneous sharing of Dadpe Pohe among the students, fostering a sense of community and teamwork.
