A Day with Nature: Std I’s Exciting Field Trip to Kamala Nehru Park

On August 7 th , 2024, the students of Std I at Vikhe Patil Memorial School embarked on an educational field trip to Kamala Nehru Park in Erandwane. The trip, themed around “Plants,” aimed to provide students with a hands-on learning experience about nature and the various types of plants.

The field trip began with the class teachers explaining the importance of the educational trip and the discipline to be followed. The students left the school premises at 8:30 AM, filled with excitement and curiosity. Upon arrival at Kamala Nehru Park, the students took a walk around the park, guided by their class teachers. The teachers explained various plants found in the park, discussing different types of plants
and their characteristics. The concept of roots was demonstrated by showing the coconut tree roots, providing a practical understanding of how roots support and nourish plants.

During their exploration, the students were thrilled to see a big frog in the pond and observed various flower buds, which sparked their interest in the natural world around them. Despite the rainy weather, which hindered their play activities in the park, the students remained enthusiastic about the learning experience. A standout moment was when the students saw a big fighter Jet dummy in the park, which made them very happy. They also learned about betel leaves, the Mast tree, coconut and palm trees, strong trunks, and hanging roots. These hands-on observations helped solidify their understanding of different plant species and their unique features.

Additionally, the group met a reporter from the Sakal newspaper, who appreciated the teachers of VPMS for their initiative in making students aware of the plants in their surroundings. The reporter happily clicked pictures of the group and promised to mention the visit in their paper.

The field trip saw full participation from Std I, and 5 teachers attending. The high level of enthusiasm and curiosity among the students was evident as they actively participated in all the activities. The teachers facilitated the learning process, ensuring that each child was engaged and learning.

Feedback from the students and teachers was highly positive. Teachers noted the effectiveness of the hands-on approach in teaching about plants and nature.

In conclusion, the Std I field trip to Kamala Nehru Park was a resounding success, providing an enriching and enjoyable learning experience for the students. Despite the rain hindering some play activities, the theme of “Plants” was effectively explored through interactive activities and expert guidance, fostering a deeper appreciation for nature among the young learners.
