“Vaccines play a critical role in preventing the spread of serious viruses and diseases, and yet few children are fully vaccinated against human papillomavirus.” Blue Cross Blue Shield Association
The World Health Organization says HPV vaccination is recommended as part of a coordinated strategy to prevent cervical cancer and other diseases caused by the Human Papilloma Virus. Countries that have included the HPV vaccine in their regular immunization list have successfully reduced the diseases caused by this virus. The HPV vaccine is most effective when administered during the preteen years, ideally around ages 11 or 12. However, it can be administered as early as age 9 and up to the age of 26.

In a bid to reduce cases of cervical cancer, Dr. Poorva Lunavat, a dedicated parent, proposed running the HPV vaccination drive in Vikhe Patil Memorial School Pune. Following an awareness program for parents and staff, the first drive was conducted on Saturday, 10th August 2024.

In order to give more students to take advantage of the cancer-busting HPV vaccine, the second vaccination drive was organized in school under the able guidance of our principal Ms. Mrinalini. The beneficiaries registered through the VPMS portal are vaccinated on the school campus on Friday, 11 th October 2024 from 10am to 11 am. A total of 7 members opted for CERVAVAC and 2 chose GARDISIL 9. Parents were allowed to accompany their wards during the vaccination.

The vaccination facility was optional for the parents, as the initiative was taken for social awareness and as a noble cause. Let us join our hands for a better tomorrow.
