Go Green Activity: Zero Wastage Week
Date: 21st August 2024 to 29th August 2024.
“We may never reach the ZERO in Zero Waste, but that's no reason to take ZERO action.”-Anne-Marie Bonneau, Zero Waste Chef
Objectives:
The objective of the Go Green – Zero Wastage Week, was to educate and to make students aware about the importance of minimising wastage and promoting sustainable practices to save energy in school as well as everywhere else.
The Go Green Zero Wastage Week was conducted from 21st August, 2024 to 29th August, 2024 for the students of Lower Primary Section.
To equip the students with knowledge about environmental issues and challenges that affect our lives, the teachers had a detailed discussion on how to minimise wastage. They explained the need for saving resources and avoiding wastage.
Keeping the objective in mind the following activities were planned and executed for the Zero
Wastage Week:
1. Students ensured that they finished the food during their breaks without wasting
2. Students consciously observed whether the lights and fans were switched off when not in use.
3. Craft items were made using waste material.
4. They avoided use of plastic tiffin’s and plastic bottles.
5. Students watered the plants after school with the left over water from their water bottles.
6. Keeping the classrooms and school campus clean by picking up the litter.
7. The students, along with their class teachers, created a poster featuring an apt slogan, which was then signed by all parents.
The students successfully participated in the zero wastage week. The above activities were conducted for our young learners to participate in their own small way to save our environment – the lifeline of mankind. They now realise that this is just the beginning. They must continue to work together to maintain and build upon these efforts to reduce wastage and promote a sustainable environment.
