VPMS Pune at the ‘Big Green Fest 2025’, PCW: Season 3
On the 18th of January 2025, students of VPMS Pune, participated in the ‘Big Green Fest,’ held at Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru
Auditorium, Ghole Road, Pune . The event was organised by Pune Climate Warrior (PCW) under the able guidance of Divya
Chavan (project coordinator for PCW) and other dignitaries. This is the third year of the fest, and our school has always been an
active participant on this platform every year.
The theme of this year’s festival is “Sustainable Living: Nurturing Tomorrow’s Changemakers.” The event witnessed several
attendees, including school students, teachers, parents, educators, environmentalists, citizens, small businesses working towards
sustainability, and community members. The festival featured various activities such as eco stalls, workshops, fashion show, talks
and street play performances. Eco stalls showcased projects from schools, NGOs, and a marketplace offering sustainable products,
eco-friendly apparel, book stalls, charity stalls etc.
Our school stall had on display all activities done by our students throughout this academic year like Eco-gifts, 7Rs, understanding
Biodiversity etc. which were prescribed by PCW. Students also displayed the ‘Ek Kadam Aage’ activities like upcycling used
cycle tyre, decorations from trash etc. which went beyond the given framework and created a huge impact on students’ understanding of environment-consciousness. Reyansh Chandak from std 8A exhibited a presentation cum sale counter of his self- created bioenzyme made out of processed citrus fruit peels. His product has proved to be an effective cleaner and fertilizer. Our teacher Mrs Nidhi Jain, also had a counter of terracotta and cloth jewellery which helped people choose eco friendly options while making purchases. The profit obtained from the sale of eco-jewellery and bioenzyme will be donated for a noble cause.
The terrarium making workshop was attended by few of our school students. Seven students from std VI and VII participated in the ‘Fashioned by Nature’ competition and around 20 schools across Pune had participated in the same. Ojasvi Patil of std VIC from our school bagged the third prize in this fashion show. She sported a gown and jewellery made out of newspaper and gift warp paper.
Art installations and selfie zones were showcased in the Eco Expressions Zone, emphasizing environmental themes. Also, sustainable food counters promoting eco-friendly practices and waste segregation were set up at the Green Spoon food stalls. Ojasvi Patil (VI C), Inaaya Sayeeda (VI C), Saanvi Gandhi (VI C), Aarna Patil (VI C), Kavya Pate (VI B), Eva Bhangdiya (VII B) and Anika Patankar (VII A) participated in the Fashioned by nature competition. Manasvi Patil (VI C) and Aarin Chopda (VI C) participated in the terrarium making workshop. Manasvi Patil (VI C), Vardhan Mahajan (VII B), Akshara Kharwandikar (VIII A), Varad Chitale (VIII A), Shravni Kelkar (VIII B) along with Ms. Mrinalini Rao managed the school stall. Inputs, guidance and support from our principal, management, students, teachers and all other faculties helped the school create an impact at the event.
