
Interhouse Debates Report
The second round of the Interhouse Debate Competition was held on 17th November between Sapphire House and Coral House on the topic “Indian Media: The Makers or the Breakers of Social Harmony.” The event witnessed an engaging exchange of ideas as both teams presented well-researched arguments. The Coral House was in favour of the motion and the Sapphire House was against the motion. The speakers Coral House argued that the Indian media plays a constructive role by raising awareness, highlighting social issues, and acting as a bridge between the government and the public. They emphasized that responsible journalism fosters unity and strengthens democratic values.
On the other hand, Sapphire House highlighted instances of sensationalism, biased reporting, and misinformation, asserting that such practices often mislead the public and disrupt social harmony. Their speakers stressed the need for stricter regulations and ethical reporting.
The judges for the debates were Prof. Trupti Tiwari and Miss Juhi Harisighani, who had an extensive teaching and training experience. The debate was by moderated by the students from class XI and XII.
The audience listened attentively, appreciating the clarity and conviction of the debaters. The judges commended both teams for their confidence, content, and rebuttals. The round concluded with an insightful understanding of the media’s powerful influence on society. The finals will between Ruby and Sapphire in the next month.
