“Education does not mean to acquiring knowledge or getting an academic designation only. It must lead to the creation of a free mind and free thinking.” Dr B. R. Ambedkar
Field trips are educational, hands-on experiences that enrich students’ lives by fostering new learning and understanding. Museum visits help students observe and learn about specific individuals, Places, and historical events, while also sparking joy and enthusiasm. The trip to the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Museum & Memorial was a prime example of this.
The objective of the visit was to make students aware of the huge contributions of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, who was a multifaceted personality, was also the architect of India’s constitution, a great social reformer, a humanist, a messiah of the downtrodden and a proponent of national unity. He was a leader of the poor, a powerful orator, a constitutionalist par excellence, a jurist, a renowned author and the exponent of “DHAMMA CHAKRA”.
The museum is centrally located, making it accessible to all. Dr Maisaheb Ambedkar, wife of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, has generously donated to the museum many of his personal belongings, his memorabilia, including the urn containing his sacred ashes, the coveted Bharat-Ratna award, along with the citation.
Students got to see the hologram of Dr Ambedkar’s Speech in the Constituent Assembly on 17th December 1946, which is the latest addition in the museum. They were then allowed to explore the museum and understand the most important incidents of Dr Ambedkar’s life, like the Poona Pact, Dr Ambedkar taking the oath as the first Law Minister, Dr Ambedkar embracing Buddhism etc. that were depicted in the form of lifelike sculptures. This was followed by a documentary of his life and a glance through the relics preserved in the museum.
This opportunity enabled the students to connect to incidents which until this visit were just textual. All in all it was a wonderful learning experience for them.
