ACTIVITY PLAN: A visit to Parvati Hill
REPORT
“Preserving heritage is preserving humanity“
On 11th April, the first club activity was planned at Parvati Hill, one of the most prominent landmarks in Pune. Nestled in the heart of the city, the site proved to be a breath of fresh air away from the daily routine. The journey began with the climb of 103 wide stone steps, historically designed for elephants. Though slightly steep, the steps were manageable, and students took them in their stride, proving that where there is a will, there is a way. The path, often bustling with morning walkers, added to the lively yet calm atmosphere.
At the top, the Devdeveshwar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and other deities, stood as the main attraction. Built in black stone and commissioned by Shrimant Nanasaheb Peshwa, the temple complex is steeped in history, with his Samadhi located nearby. Adjacent to the temple, the Peshwe Museum offered students a chance to turn back the pages of time, showcasing a remarkable collection of manuscripts, weapons, and artifacts from the 17th and 18th centuries. Inside the museum, students observed coins made of copper and silver, admired portraits of Bajirao Peshwa, Lord Ganesh, and other notable figures, and appreciated intricately sculpted artworks of gods and goddesses. They were also intrigued to learn about the underground tunnel believed to connect Parvati Hill to Shaniwar Wada, once used by the Peshwa army.
The visit was not just educational but also filled with joyful moments, as students gathered fallen flowers and adorned their braids and ponytails, truly making memories to cherish. The hilltop offered a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of Pune city, leaving everyone spellbound. Overall, the visit to Parvati Hill was an enriching experience that perfectly blended history, learning, and recreation—truly the icing on the cake for the first club activity.
