Cosmic Explorers’- The Space and Astronomy Club
Activity-2: Mission Aditya – Unlocking the Mysteries of the Sun
Date: 28.06.2025
Venue: Seminar Hall, Main building
Agenda of the activity: To foster scientific curiosity about our closest star—the Sun—and explore India’s ambitious space mission, Aditya-L1.
‘Space is not the final frontier—it’s just the beginning of man’s greatest discoveries’
The second activity of the Cosmic Explorers’ Club was an enlightening and engaging session on the topic “Mission Aditya”, with a comprehensive presentation about explorations made on our parent star.
The session, led by Mr. Gore, from ‘Box of Science’ introduced participants to key concepts in solar and stellar astronomy. It began with an exploration of the Sun’s structure, including its core, outer layers, and solar phenomena like sunspots and flares, emphasizing their effects on Earth.
Expanding into stellar astronomy, the session covered star classifications and the life cycle of stars—from formation in nebulas to their endpoints as white dwarfs, neutron stars, or black holes—highlighting how the Sun compares to other stars.
A historical overview of major solar missions from NASA, ESA, and ISRO set the stage for a detailed look at India’s Aditya-L1 mission. Mr. Gore explained the significance of the Lagrange Point L1 and simplified the functions of key instruments like VELC, SUIT, and SoLEXS for better understanding.
The session concluded with a hands-on model-making activity, where students constructed models of the Aditya-L1 probe, reinforcing concepts through interactive and experiential learning. The session was highly informative and engaging, offering a clear understanding of both solar science and stellar astronomy.
The hands-on model-making activity was a highlight—it brought theory to life and deepened the learners’ understanding through practical learning
Last but not least the learning about India’s contribution to solar research through the Aditya-L1 mission inspired a strong sense of curiosity and pride.
