Theme of Session 6: Watching a Live Play
Learning Objective:
To provide students with an immersive theatre experience that reinforces classroom learning by observing professional performance elements such as space, transitions, acting techniques, technical aspects, and audience engagement.
Session Highlights:
The final session of the series took students out of the classroom and into the real world of theatre. The group attended a live play performed by Swatantra Theatre, titled ‘India’s Space Odyssey’ with narration by Akhilendra Mishra. Students were briefed in advance on what to observe- space, transitions, acting choices, sound, lighting, and audience engagement.
The students watched with rapt attention as the entire space journey of ISRO, right from its founding to the launch of the PSLVs, Chandrayan, Mars Mission and future endeavours of ISRO. It followed the journey of CV Raman, Vikram Sarabhai, Satish Dhawan and APJ Abdul Kalam. In addition, in the concluding segment of the play, the role of women in space technology and ISRO was highlighted. The play was very well received by a packed house and received a standing ovation at the end, followed by the National Anthem.
Following the performance, a reflective discussion was held on 24th January 2026, allowing students to share their observations and articulate their learning. Many expressed how the experience deepened their understanding not only of dramatic structure and performance dynamics, but also of space and science technology. The play served as both an inspiration and a powerful reinforcement of all the concepts explored during the previous five sessions.
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the session, students were able to critically analyze and articulate their observations of a live theatrical performance. They demonstrated a deeper understanding of dramatic structure, staging, and performance dynamics, and reflected meaningfully on how professional practices align with the techniques and concepts learned during the drama club sessions
