Activity: Field Trip to the Aviation Museum, Shivajinagar, Pune.

Objectives:

  • To study the history and evolution of aviation from early aircraft to modern aerospace technology.
  • To understand the scientific principles of flight, including aerodynamics, propulsion, and navigation and observe various types of aircraft, engines, and aviation equipment displayed in the museum.
  • To gain knowledge about the role of aviation in national defense, transportation, and global connectivity and enhance theoretical knowledge through practical and visual exposure to real aviation artifacts.
  • To develop interest and awareness about career opportunities in the aviation and aerospace industry.

The field trip to the Aviation Museum in Shivajinnagar, Pune, was an exhilarating experience for all involved. Located in the heart of the city, the Dr. Balasaheb Devras Aviation Gallery is a must-visit destination for aviation enthusiasts and students alike. The museum boasts an impressive collection of aircraft models, airport operations exhibit, and military aviation displays spread across three floors, making it an engaging and informative experience.

As we entered the museum, we were greeted by the staff and escorted to the first floor, which takes visitors on a journey through the evolution of aviation. The exhibits showcased scaled models of planes, the science behind flying, and an insight into the history of aviation. The displays were interactive and informative, making it easy for students to grasp complex concepts.

The second floor was equally impressive, featuring scaled models of helicopters and drones, an airport model, and exhibits on the Indian Air Force. The exhibits provided valuable career guidance for students, offering a glimpse into the exciting world of aviation and aerospace engineering. An informative video on various careers in aviation was shown to students. The Indian Air Force section was particularly inspiring, showcasing the bravery and skill of our air warriors.

The third floor was dedicated to space science, aeromodelling, and paramotoring, offering a glimpse into the exciting world of aerospace engineering. The exhibits were engaging and interactive, making it easy for students to learn about complex concepts in a fun way.

Students were instructed to carry their notepads in order to jot down important points. They were asked to write an elaborate essay on their field trip experience and learning. Overall, the field trip was an excellent opportunity for students to learn about aviation and aerospace engineering, while also inspiring future aviators.
