‘It’s better to see something once than to hear about it thousand times.’

The students of Std VI visited Shri Mahavira Jain Vidyalaya, Agarkar Road, an education center in Pune for their field trip. This Vidyalaya was established in 1914. The Vidyalaya believes that education coupled with the learning of the basic principles of Jainism will help in creating better citizens of tomorrow adopting them as a way of life.

The teachers and students were warmly welcomed by the SMJV staff. They first visited the magnificent marble Lord Mahavira temple. The most outstanding feature of this architecture is its carvings. The entire trip through the lush green trees along with brief, intermittent insightful talks by Mr. Yuvraj Shah not only helped the students get information but also indulged them to savor the pristine locale which was a respite thoroughly enjoyed by the students. The students and teachers relished a sumptuous breakfast generously provided by the staff there.

From nature trail up the hillock, a visit to the jungle book library, walk on the London bridge with showers of artificial rain, luxuriant terrace garden, every aspect of the trip helped the students get hands -on-learning on how to expand our natural environment by upcycling discarded yet reusable materials like pots, commodes, coconut shells, tyres of all sizes, cycles and cycle tyres, shoes, pipes to name a few to recreative reuse. The staff of SMJV briefed the students with the journey of the mini nature park that they created. Right from its inception to its development through various stages, the transformation of the place was described in an interesting way and encouraged students to work positively for the environment. Before leaving, students were taken to the enclosed well with sprinklers and were provided with an exposure to the open playground which was an added pleasure for the students. It was a great learning and an enriching experience for the students and teachers alike. It provided an opportunity to the students to enjoy the serenity and tranquility amid the hustle and bustle of the city.
