Report of Field Visit to SOFOSH- TARA
Class VIII
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”— Mahatma Gandhi
On December 4, 2025, 121 students from Standard VIII, accompanied by four teachers of Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Pune, visited TARA, the SOFOSH Dhadphale Centre, which serves as a home for children who are physically or mentally challenged and deprived of family care.
The students were able to meet and interact with specially-abled children who are deprived of family care. They first received an introduction about the organization and its residents, aimed at helping them, develop empathy and understand the challenges faced by vulnerable individuals.
Afterward, the children from SOFOSH performed a drama on protecting the environment for the visiting students. The interaction between SOFOSH children and VPMS students continued through various engaging activities performed by our school students like dance, singing, puppet show and magic show.
Subsequently, students were grouped and guided around the facility to observe classroom activities, the physiotherapy section, and the dormitories, where they engaged with the children living at the home. They were also shown the activity area, medical rooms, and the hygienically maintained kitchen and dining spaces.
VPMS students donated ample groceries and toiletries as a kind and thoughtful contribution.
The visit proved to be a profound learning experience. It not only highlighted the various challenges faced by vulnerable groups in society but also encouraged students to appreciate the privileges they often take for granted. The exposure further motivated them to contribute positively to the community.
