Accidents don’t come with a notice, awareness saves life!!
First aid refers to medical attention that is usually administered immediately after an injury occurs and at the location where it occurred. It often consists of a one-time, short-term treatment and requires little technology or training to administer.
Teaching first aid to children provides them with the essential skills that can be life-saving. Simple accidents like tripping or slipping and falling or twisting an ankle might seem a trivial part of the school life, but they are capable of causing serious injuries. Realizing this, Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Pune conducted a First Aid Training Session for the students of std. IX on the 3 rd and 4 th of April 2023, which also is a CBSE initiative.
The workshop sessions focused on the basics of first aid, and how to provide first aid in wounds, bleeding, musculoskeletal injury, burns, heatstroke, poisoning, bites, drowning, fainting, seizures and unconsciousness.
The programme was conducted by the Astitva Life Saving Training and HR Services India Pvt. Ltd., led by Mrs. Sandhya Kotbagi and her well experienced and well equipped team.
Lectures were held in the morning and practical demonstrations were held in the afternoon. Students were introduced to the value of First Aid and how it should be given in different situations. They were also introduced to the kind of first aid that could be administered in the case of electric shocks, burns, fractures, snake bites, sprains, dislocations, eye injuries, etc. Mrs. Kotbagi explained the students the three basic aims of first aid- First aim of First Aid is to save a life. The second aim is to prevent the person’s condition from worsening. The third aim is to help in the person’s recovery.
At the end of the training period, all the students had hands-on experience of dressing the wound, applying different types of bandages, splinting the injured body part, providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and transferring the victim. There was active participation by all the students and they expressed that the workshop will be very useful for them to meet the emergencies in and out of the school.
The motto of the workshop: – ” Three P’s” Preserve life, stop the person from dying, prevent further injury, was well met in the training programme.
