French National Day Celebration – Year 2024-25
The ‘Bastille Day’ commonly known as French National Day was celebrated on 12th July with lot of enthusiasm. 14th July 1789 – is a pivotal moment in French history as on this day, the people of France began the French revolution to change their destiny. Our school always
encourages the activities which help in learning.
The 12 th July event started with a special Assembly. The French Language teachers and the students of Grade IX and Grade X together worked to organise this special day. The thought of the day, facts, news was about France. It was followed by recitation of a Poem which was written by Sabine Aussenac. The students of Grade X read the French and the English version of this French Poem based on French Revolution.
The students enjoyed the skit based on French and English language pronunciation. It was written by Anvit Likhate and Shresth Chowdhary of Grade X. Through this skit students could see the differences between languages and at the same time respect towards all languages in a
humorous way. This day brings the opportunity to introduce the cuisine, artists and various aspects of France.
The morning became musical with a pop song ‘Parler à mon père’ which was presented by the students of Std IX and X. It was Celine Dion’s famous and her 3 rd longest charting song. The school was decorated with display boards showcasing other aspects of France such as
French expressions commonly used in English. It also exhibited the French writers whose books are equally famous in English such as Jules Verne for books like ‘20 thousand leagues under the sea’ or Alexandre Dumas for ‘The three musketeers’. The board also displayed few famous French cities other than Paris and their speciality such as Toulouse for Air Bus or Strasbourg for European Parliament.
Films are the effective medium to learn a language differently. We learn new words, expressions and understand typical accents. The classroom sessions were more interesting with screening of French short films. The students watched animation films like Le Petit Pianist, Elves and the shoe maker, Caillou, with subtitles and a documentary on Pondicherry known for its French connection.
To make this experience unforgettable for our students a special meal was organized. It was a meal with typical French touch. The overwhelming response said it all. We could transcend a slice of France in our school solely due to the student’s enthusiasm and curiosity to learn more about France.
