Club report for Heritage Club – 25 th November 2023.

Name of the activity- In-house Activity-Block painting and learning the art of pottery
Venue- VIII D and school ground.

Objectives:

 To understand the importance of culture of pottery, create and design their pots or any other earthen ware.
 Be able to better understand how people used materials from the earth to make cooking and storage vessels that they used in their everyday lives.
 To learn the technical skills, vocabulary, processes and materials related to using clay as an art material for making pottery and sculpture.
 to enhance artistic development and appreciation for traditional crafts.

As aptly said ‘Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn’

The fourth club activity was conducted on 25 th November 2023. It entailed to 2 activities -The 1 st activity of Block painting helped the members to make patterns and designs on fabric like old T-shirts and home furnishings, such as table cloths, runners, curtains and old dupattas using wooden block and fabric colour to create beautiful designs imprinted on the fabric.

The 2 nd activity involved making of clay pots. The workshop began with a brief introduction to the history and significance of pottery as an art form by a professional potter who explained to the students the various types of clay and the basic techniques involved in pottery. A live demonstration was conducted to showcase the essential pottery techniques such as coiling, pinching, and wheel throwing. This demonstration served as a foundation for the students who enthusiastically indulged themselves in practical work designing pots of their own.

The teachers also tried their hands on the wheel to make artistic pots. The students were thrilled to witness the transformation of their creations from raw clay to the final product.

Overall, the activity was a fruitful and an enjoyable one for everyone alike.
