‘When we nurture nature, nature nurtures us.’
This thought truly came to life during the second Club activity. The activity encouraged students to connect with soil, seeds, and plants through hands-on learning. The session began with an introduction of various terms related to agriculture like Sericulture, Dairy Science, Plant Pathology and Agriculture Engineering. This was followed by an explanation of the importance of seed treatment which make
them ready for efficient fertilization and optimum yield.
The students were introduced to various methods of seed treatment such as:
Dry seed treatment – Bio Fungicide coating using Tricoderma Powder
Wet seed treatment
Salt water test
Fungicide and water soak method
Organic Fermented seed dip (Jeewamrut)
Biopriming with Trichoderma
Each student got a chance to observe and handle seeds under guidance. Students measured the correct quantity of the product needed to treat seeds. The seeds were then coated using different methods. This activity gave students an opportunity to understand why it is important to treat seed before sowing.
The students performed the activity with great enthusiasm. The gardening activity at Karigar School of Applied Learning was a successful step towards experiential learning. It not only enriched students’ understanding of science and the environment but also instilled important life skills like team work patience, responsibility, and sustainability in the students.
