LPS Parent Session Report
On 9th November 2024, a session titled ‘Parenting Essentials’ was conducted by school counsellor Ms Mrunmayee Harshe at Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Pune, under the valuable guidance of Principal Ms Mrinalini and supported by the Lower Primary School (LPS) team, aimed to equip parents with essential parenting skills.
Ms. Mrunmayee began by outlining typical behaviours and developmental milestones for children in the lower primary age group, emphasizing the alignment of parents expectations with these realities. Parents were guided on how to support their children’s sense of industry while avoiding undue criticism which could foster feelings of inferiority
A key focus was on helping parents manage their ward’s emotional meltdowns. The counsellor demonstrated effective responses to emotional outbursts through role-play with the assistance of Ms Sucheta M. Parents received guidance on how to acknowledge feelings and guide children without escalating situations. They participated in an activity to practice validating their child’s emotions.
Furthermore, parents attention was drawn to their wards developmental needs & nurturing a supporting environment by explaining do’s & don’t as parenting essentials.
The session was well received by parents and ended with a brief question-and-answer segment.
