Exploring the Art of Photography
The Mass Media and Communication Club at Vikhe Patil Memorial School held an engaging activity session on July 13, 2024, in the school computer lab. The event aimed to introduce students to the fundamentals of photography and inspire them to explore their creative potential through the lens. The event began with an introductory session led by Ms. Manasi Raut, a renowned photographer and alumnus of VPMS. The Club head, welcomed Ms. Manasi, expressing gratitude for her time and expertise.
Students then participated in various activities designed to enhance their understanding of photography. The session was conducted on topics such as composition, lighting, rule of thirds, and colour psychology. They also learned about all the technical terms and internal parts of a camera. Students gained an understanding of it by practically using their cameras. A special segment on mobile photography was
also included, given its relevance in today’s digital age. The highlight of the session was a live demonstration of light photography, where Ms. Manasi showcased different techniques to capture stunning images. She also took the students on a trip down her memory lane, revisiting school memories from even before 2002, which strengthened their bond with her.
A few of the significant moments of the event was the interactive Q&A session with Ms. Manasi. Students eagerly asked questions about different photography techniques and received insightful answers. Another highlight was the photo contest organized for the participants. Students were given the theme “Nature in Our School” and were asked to capture unique moments around the campus from three different viewpoints. The top three photographs were displayed and critiqued, providing valuable feedback to the budding photographers. In addition to this session, the resource person will conduct another one in which students will practice printing their photos and making negatives of them.
