The Nature Nurturers (Plant Nursery) Skill Club successfully organized its inaugural activity, Green Tour to the Plant Nursery, as part of the school’s Skill Club initiative, offering students an immersive and educational experience in the world of plants and gardening.
The session began with an introduction of various terms related to gardening and plant pathology. The students were introduced to the objectives of the club and our role in nursing and nurturing nature.
A couple of short informative videos were shown to the students to understand the design and structure of a plant nursery, germination, soil culture and the method to make it ready for efficient fertilization and optimum yield. The difference between wild and cultivated plants was discussed with the help of a short video.
During the visit, students were introduced to a diverse range of plant species and gained firsthand knowledge of essential horticultural practices, including planting, watering, and nurturing techniques. The interactive nature of the tour encouraged curiosity and active participation, enabling learners to understand the growth cycle of plants and the care required to sustain them. The school gardener helped the students identify and understand a few common species found in the school campus. Plant propagation techniques were also reiterated by him in the school nursery. Students were encouraged to design their dream nursery on a blank sheet using sketch pens and colours. Some images and graphics were displayed to facilitate understanding of a nursery design.
Beyond academic learning, the activities played a significant role in fostering essential life skills such as patience, responsibility, and teamwork, while simultaneously instilling a deep sense of environmental consciousness. The experience allowed students to build a meaningful connection with nature, inspiring them to value greenery and adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives. Overall, the Green Tour proved to be a highly enriching and impactful initiative, laying a strong foundation for future activities aimed at holistic student development.
