As part of our ongoing commitment to support the emotional well-being of our students and their parents and following the theme for the current year of “Mental Health Awareness”, this new initiative called Nurture Hub is a program that is devised for the parents and students of grade 1, 5 & 8. Considering the transition that happens in these grades this pilot program is planned mainly for the
above classes.
As a part of the program, the first session was planned exclusively for mothers. As rightly said by Napoleon Bonaparte-“Give me an educated mother, I shall promise you the birth of a civilized, educated nation.” This quote highlights the profound impact of a mother’s education on the development of her children and, by extension, the nation as a whole. Educated mothers are better equipped to nurture their childrens emotional growth, provide a stimulating environment, and instill values that contribute to a strong and progressive society as part of our ongoing commitment to support the emotional well-being of our families.
The theme for the session centered around this powerful idea that, “When you empower a mother, you empower the entire home.” It aimed to strengthen mothers’ confidence in their parenting approach, highlight the role of a mother as the emotional center of the family and sharing experiences as they all go through this wonderful journey of motherhood as one team.
Participants were made to work in 4 groups and the most common challenegs with their children were discussed and presented. There was a lot of shared learning and venting out that helped the mothers feel comforted and reassured. Motherhood stereotypes, physical and emotional challenges that mothers face, screen addiction issues and multitasking etc were some of the common challenges that were
spoken about.
A pre session activity was done in order to understand the influence of a mother in the child’s life and a summary of the students’ responses were shared with all the parents. The speaker threw light upon the absolute essentials of parenting which included giving undivided attention, listening, role modelling and regulation of our emotions to mention a few. All challenges faced by mothers were addressed and practicale and doable solutions for the same were explored.
The session was interactive, reassuring, and filled with shared experiences. Many mothers expressed how supported and equipped they felt through the dialogue and insights shared. They also expressed their appreciation for conducting this much needed workshop at the beginning of the year and requested for having these sessions more often. The session on all four days were very well received by all the mothers and it left them feeling confident to be nurturers, mentors and guides to our dear
students.
