Std IV and V – ‘Trash to Treasure’ and ‘Best out of waste’ – June month activity
Upcycling is an eco-friendly practice which provides a platform for environmental consciousness. Accordingly, ‘Trash to Treasure’ and ‘Best out of waste’ activities were carried out on 30th of June 2023 by Std IV and V. The aim of these activities was to promote creativity, resourcefulness, and environmental consciousness among students by encouraging them to create useful and aesthetic board games for Std IV with reuse of cardboard and making useful articles from discarded or unused eco-friendly materials for Std V.
The main objective of these activities was to encourage students to think creatively and innovate with eco-friendly materials, promote the concept of recycling and upcycling, raising awareness about environmental sustainability and showcasing the importance of waste management and reducing waste generation.
The activities commenced by highlighting the significance of the ‘Trash to Treasure’ and ‘Best out of waste’ concept, emphasizing the need to reduce the waste and recycle materials creatively. Students were divided house-wise in respective classrooms. Their creations would
be judged on creativity, resourcefulness, aesthetic appeal, functionality and on relevance to the theme.
The students of Std IV displayed their creativity by making useful board games like snakes and ladders, basketball, tic-tac-toe, Indian luddo, Carrom, Danger boat, Diagonal moves, Even and odd numbers, Space explorer, Business world, Space stars, Math games etc. The
students of Std V as they created wall hangings, table organisers, photo frames, table calendar, bird feeder etc. These activities helped to foster an awareness about sustainable practices to conserve the environment.
