Report of the Vikhe Patil Model United Nations – VPMUN’23
Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Pune proudly hosted the fourth edition of the Vikhe Patil Model United Nations – VPMUN’23 on the 19 th and 20th of August 2023 Around one hundred and ninety two delegates eagerly made their way to be part of this conference that span over two days and paved way to quite a few first time MUN enthusiasts. The Chief Guest for the august occasion was Ms.B.Mrinalini, Principal, Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Pune. The VPMUN began with an opening ceremony. A prayer song followed by the lighting of the lamp and a classical dance as a tribute to the Gods set the tone to an auspicious beginning. This was followed by the felicitation of the Chief Guest by Mr Amol Patil, Vice Principal Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Pune. Ms B.Mrinalini graced the occasion by sharing with the delegates the importance regarding awareness, views and involvement of youth in global issues. The Secretary General, Ojas Arjun welcomed the delegates and shared an overview about the two day conference. This was followed by the Chief Guest declaring the Conference open.
The delegates then proceeded to their respective committees to debate over the agendas given to them. The committees that featured in the conference were, United Nations Security Council (UNSC), United Nations Human Resource Committee (UNHRC), United Nations Commission On The Status Of Women ( UNCSW), Disarmament and International Security Committee (UNGA- DISEC), All India Political Parties Meet (AIPPM) and the International Press (IP). In the committees the delegates expressed their support for their respected country
and shared opinions on the agenda, with excellent guidance from the Chairpersons, Vice Chairpersons Presidents, Vice Precidents , Moderators and Co Moderators of their respective committees. They shared their attributes on topics concerning their committees and
maintained a consistent flow of formal debates and deliberations throughout the session. There was a noticeable change in the students as they opened debate. Letting go of their inhibitions and putting on a focused and professional manner, they transformed into delegates. Heated discussions and arguments against and in defense set the mood to the conference.
On the second day the committees worked on their draft resolutions. The delegates unanimously came to a conclusion for their respective agendas. Delegates learnt about the importance of coming together to achieve a common goal in the true spirit of the United Nations. The second day concluded with a prize distribution ceremony where the winners were awarded trophies, cash prizes and certificates by the Chief Guest Ms. B. Mrinalini , Principal Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Pune who later along with the Director General Avni Mulchandani declared the Conference closed.
It was an extremely enriching, knowledgeable enlightening experience for the young VPMUNers as it has helped broaden their horizons of knowledge.
