Bag Less Day
To take a break from the regular routine is not only refreshing but essential for the holistic development of a student. Keeping this in mind the Lower Primary Section of Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Pune declared a Bag Less Day for the students of Std. I, II and III on Friday 24th April, 2026.
The activities planned for Bag Less Day were connected to World Earth Day. On this day, students came to school without their bags and participated in a variety of fun-filled, engaging and educational activities. The day began with a morning assembly, where teachers explained the importance of learning beyond textbooks and encouraged students to explore their creativity.

The first activity of the day was to watch two interesting, eco – friendly and age appropriate films connected to Earth Day. The first film, helped students understand why Earth is our one and only home and what we can do every day to keep it clean, green, and full of life. The second film ‘The Boy Who Grew A Forest’ highlighted that even if one cannot immediately grow a full forest, taking action to care for the environment makes a crucial difference. To check the students understanding about the film a worksheet based on the film was solved by the students.

After the short break, it was time for a fun game. Students sat in a circle on their chairs. The teacher played music while a soft ball representing the Earth was passed gently from one child to another. When the music stopped, the student holding the Earth responded to or performed a simple Earth and environment-related task given by the teacher like-say one way to keep Earth clean, say one thing we should not waste etc.

Then students were divided into groups and were given paper and colours. Students made colourful and meaningful posters on Earth Day.This activity promoted creativity and teamwork among the students. The students then decorated a cut out of a medal with ‘I am a green hero ‘written on it. This medal reminded the students of their responsibility toward keeping the Earth green and clean.

Students actively participated and showed great enthusiasm throughout the day This activity made learning more immersive and enjoyable, fostering a greater love for education.

The ‘Bag Less Day ‘was not only a break from the routine but also promoted creativity , unity, awareness and love for the environment. It was overall a fun filled day.
