Emotional Well Being Activity – ‘My Support Circle’
“A strong support system builds confident kids”
Objectives:
To promote a sense of belonging, mutual respect, empathy, and emotional well-being among the students.
To be able to identify trusted people in their family, school, and community who can help them when needed.
To be able to express their feelings and emotions confidently in a safe and supportive environment.
To create self-awareness by recognizing their own needs and emotions.
To develop communication skills by sharing thoughts and listening respectfully to others.
To encourage children to share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences about their support circle, in a safe and supportive environment.
Description of the Activity: In relation to the activity. the teacher spoke to the students about who they can reach out to when they are upset, scared or angry. Small paper cut-outs in the shape of umbrellas were given to the students. Every child wrote the names of the people in their support circle on the umbrella panels.
Grade 1 students wrote general terms such as: My Parents, My Friends, My Teachers, My Grandparents.
Grade 2 and 3 students wrote specific names such as: Mother, Father, name of a friend or a teacher etc.
All the umbrellas were displayed on a chart with the heading: “My Support System – I Am Never Alone”
Learning Outcomes: The students could:
Identify trusted people who can help them when needed.
Express their feelings and emotions confidently in a safe and supportive environment.
Build self-awareness by recognizing their own needs and emotions.
Strengthen social-emotional skills such as empathy, kindness, and cooperation.
Understand the importance of seeking help when facing problems or challenges.
Develop a sense of belonging and security within their classroom community.
Practice positive relationship-building skills with peers and adults.
Enhance confidence and resilience by knowing that they are supported and cared for.
With the help of today’s activity, the students could understand that everyone has people they can trust and rely on, helping them feel safe, valued, and emotionally secure.
