REPORT

“Education is a shared journey; when parents and teachers walk together, every child finds their way to success.”

Conducting an orientation for parents of Class 9 and 10 students at the beginning of the academic session aims to establish a collaborative partnership between the school and home. For these pivotal secondary years, the objectives often focus on academic readiness, regulatory compliance, and holistic student support.

At the outset, the Principal, Ms. Mrinalini Fernandes, opened the session by highlighting the evolving role of parents in their children’s lives. She offered insightful guidance on the necessity of parental presence, cautioned against the misuse of technology, and spoke about the delicate balance between granting freedom and maintaining healthy boundaries.

Taking over from there, the Secondary Coordinator Ms. Jyothi Menon introduced the subject faculty and provided a comprehensive roadmap of the curriculum. She explained the Internal Assessment structure, detailing how periodic tests, portfolios, and subject enrichment activities integrate into final grades. Beyond the syllabus, she showcased innovative learning tools and methodologies tailored for secondary education.

Ms. Menon also issued a firm reminder regarding the mandatory 75% attendance required for board eligibility and promotion.

The School Counsellor Ms. Mrunmayee Harshe led a session on contemporary parenting. She contrasted various parenting styles, offering practical “do’s and don’ts” for supporting adolescents. Her talk emphasized being vigilant yet compassionate, particularly concerning stress management and mental health. She urged parents to stay actively engaged in their children’s daily lives while fostering safe digital habits and a balanced, holistic lifestyle.

Concluding the session, Ms. Shaheen Chaiwala outlined the school’s discipline policy. She reinforced the Code of Conduct, stressing that punctuality and adherence to school regulations are non-negotiable for student success. Parents were encouraged to support the school in upholding these standards to ensure a focused and disciplined learning environment.

The orientation concluded on a positive and proactive note. The floor was opened for an interactive Q&A session, where parents sought clarifications on the upcoming academic calendar and specific support systems for the board-going batches.

The event successfully reinforced the shared responsibility between the school and parents in nurturing the students’ growth.

Parents expressed their appreciation for the transparency and the school’s holistic approach to both academics and well-being. As the session ended, there was a sense of reassurance and commitment, with both educators and guardians aligned in their mission to guide the students toward a successful and balanced academic year.
