ACTIVITY PLAN: A visit to Gatha Heritage centre (Dehu)

REPORT

“Culture is the bridge that connects our past, present, and future.”

As part of our Heritage Club activity, the third activity was a visit to Gatha Heritage centre, Dehu, the holy place associated with Sant Tukaram Maharaj. The visit was a feast for the eyes, as the temple was peaceful, clean, and beautiful.

One of the most fascinating sights was the 4,145 Abhangas written on white marble, which captured our eyes immediately. These inspiring verses, written by Sant Tukaram Maharaj, taught us valuable lessons about kindness, honesty, equality, devotion, and faith in God.

We also visited the sacred Indrayani River, where the Abhangas are believed to have been thrown into the water. According to the story, after Sant Tukaram Maharaj’s deep devotion and sincere prayers, the Abhangas miraculously came out of the water unharmed. Hearing this story helped us understand the depth of his faith and devotion.

As we explored the centre, we learned the importance of respecting our culture and preserving our rich heritage. Every student was all ears while listening to the guide and teachers and learning about the life and teachings of Sant Tukaram Maharaj.

The visit was both educational and enjoyable. It gave us a chance to turn over a new leaf by promising to follow good values in our daily lives and respect our traditions.

Our visit to Gatha Heritage centre was truly a trip to remember. We returned home with happy memories, new knowledge, and a deeper appreciation for our cultural heritage. This Heritage Club activity truly opened our eyes to the importance of preserving our history, traditions, and values.
